SEMSA Games – Womens Football Tournament

In partnership with Glasgow Life, the African Caribbean Network and Afro-Scots United the Scottish Ethnic Minority Sports Association (SEMSA) hosted a women’s football tournament in celebration of International Womens Day.
The event attracted 6 teams from across Glasgow including teams from both the minority ethnic community and the deaf community.

The two finalists were Deaf Glasgow and SEMSA Piranhas, after a competitive match SEMSA Piranhas won with the final of 5-1.
The event proved to be a huge success bringing together women from diverse backgrounds and disciplines with one common interest; sport. The day allowed women to take part in competitive sport, encouraging healthier lifestyles but also giving them the opportunity to broaden their social networks.
SEMSA hold a 5K fun run and a 10K run as part of its Annual Games Programme. The 2 races endeavour to encourage more ME people to get active through jogging. The 5K is a fun run to allow people of all fitness levels to get involved and the 10K will be for people that have experience in running or do run but may not have completed a road race before.
Annual Games 2011

SEMSA’s annual games commenced in 1991 at the Kelvinhall International Sports Arena with a one day event encompassing a range of sports. Twenty years on the programme of events takes place over 4 days in some of Glasgow’s finest facilities including; Kelvinhall International Sports Arena, Glasgow Green and Loch Inch Police Recreational Training grounds.

The games also include a 5K & 10K fun run which will take place on the 3rd July 2011 at Loch Inch Police Recreational Training grounds. Registration commences at 9.30am and seeks to encourage children, adults, men and women to take part.
The day will also include the AWAZ FM team who will entertain the crowd with their fantastic roadshow and fun games including tug of war.
